Common questions

How long does treatment usually take?

For a focused presentation, often somewhere between twelve and twenty sessions. Longer-standing OCD, or anything with several things layered on top of each other, takes longer. We give you an estimate after the assessment rather than at the first phone call, because before that it would be a guess.

Do you take insurance?

We are out of network. Many clients are reimbursed a meaningful share through out-of-network benefits, and we provide the itemised superbill needed to claim it. The front desk can walk you through what to ask your plan before you commit to anything.

Is exposure therapy as difficult as it sounds?

It is demanding, and it is also collaborative. Nothing happens that you have not agreed to in advance, the steps are built together and start well below the hardest thing, and you set the pace. Most people find the anticipation considerably worse than the exercises.

Do you work with teenagers?

Yes, from around age 13, and parents are usually part of the plan for younger teens. Several clinicians here specialise in family-involved treatment, where the work includes changing how the household responds to the anxiety rather than only what the teenager does.
