A narrow practice, on purpose.

Ashfield Center was set up to do one category of work properly rather than a wide range of it adequately. Everything below follows from that decision.

How we work

A consulting room with two armchairs beside a window

Treatment starts with an assessment rather than a first session. We want to know what the anxiety attaches to, what has already been tried, and what has quietly been arranged around it — the routes not driven, the situations declined, the reassurance asked for. That picture is what the plan is built from.

From there the work is active. Exposure-based treatment asks something of you between appointments, and we are straightforward about that at the start rather than introducing it in week five. What you get in return is a method with decades of evidence behind it and a clear way of telling whether it is working.

We review progress openly every six to eight weeks. If the plan is not moving, it changes — and occasionally that means referring you to someone whose training fits better than ours. That is a normal outcome here, not a failure.

Portrait of Dr. Iris Kwon

Dr. Iris Kwon, PhD

Clinical Psychologist · Co-director

Dr. Kwon works across OCD, health anxiety, trauma and insomnia, with an emphasis on getting to a workable plan quickly. She is direct about what the evidence supports and what it does not, which most clients report finding a relief rather than a shock.

  • PhD, Clinical Psychology — Placeholder University
  • Trained in CBT, ACT, CPT and prolonged exposure
  • Additional training in insomnia and chronic pain
  • Works with adults and teens aged 16 and above

They practise alongside eight more licensed clinicians — psychologists, social workers, a counselor and a school psychologist — so you can be matched to whoever's training fits what you are actually working on.

The space

A quiet suite on the second floor with parking directly outside, which matters more than it sounds when part of what you are treating is the dread of the appointment itself.
